This song was born, like many of my songs, from my observations of a friend’s struggle to redefine herself after having babies. I began to compare my experiences with hers and felt that, in some ways, we had become like trees in winter. Our old selves appeared to die, shedding our seeds to the whims of winter, only to find that we hadn’t really died, but were just “hibernating” and there was a beautiful life beyond that…
